Valerie Asiimwe Amani, is an artistic explorer based in Dar es salaam Tanzania. She has won awards in fashion and has a background in graphic design, writing and creative direction. Both an Economics (Rhodes University) and Fashion graduate (FEDISA), she combines her skills to create multimedia visual art pieces with narratives around the challenges surrounding Neo-colonialism and identity through the eyes of a millennial African woman.
Her work has been featured on various international platforms and publications and she has also co-authored a multimedia book titled Black Amara. Her pieces have been displayed in various group exhibitions in Tanzania, Mozambique, Canada, Ghana and South Africa. She started drawing from a young age, and at 15 she began exploring with textiles and digital art. She is currently a consultant for various artists as well as Nafasi Art Space, Tanzania’s leading contemporary art center; while simultaneously creating art, curating exhibitions and writing.
